Bearman acredita que não está garantido uma promoção para a Haas em 2025.

Oliver Bearman, test driver for the Haas F1 team, acknowledged that Nico Hulkenberg’s imminent departure presents an opportunity for him to join Formula 1 in 2025. However, Bearman does not believe he automatically deserves the position. Hulkenberg’s move to Sauber, which is transitioning to Audi, opened up a spot at Haas for the upcoming season. Bearman is considered the top candidate to replace the experienced German driver, as he had the chance to train with the team on two occasions last year. The 19-year-old British driver will participate in six FP1 sessions with Haas this season, starting with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. Bearman boosted his chances of securing a permanent spot in Formula 1 when he replaced the ill Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia and finished seventh, despite having only one hour of practice. However, Bearman does not believe these achievements guarantee him a place in Formula 1. He understands he must continue to perform well and seize opportunities as they arise. When asked if he saw Hulkenberg’s departure as a chance for himself, Bearman responded positively, but stressed that he still needs to earn the spot through strong performances in F2. He also recognizes the importance of performing well in the six FP1 sessions to demonstrate his readiness for a Formula 1 seat. In his second season in Formula 2, Bearman has scored two points so far. His championship aspirations took a hit in Jeddah, when his call-up to Formula 1 prevented him from starting on pole position. Despite this setback, Bearman remains optimistic about his chances in the F2 championship. He acknowledges he was disadvantaged, but believes anything is possible, especially now that the European season has begun and he is familiar with the tracks.

“We have gained a better understanding of the car, so I believe we have a chance to compete for the championship in F2. I am highly motivated for this.

However, these six practice sessions present excellent opportunities to showcase my talent and skills.

I do not place more importance on these sessions than I do on the F2 races, because it is crucial to demonstrate competitiveness and strong racing skills. Formula 1 is not just about setting the fastest lap times; it is a balanced combination.”

When asked if Komatsu had set specific goals for a spot in 2025, Bearman revealed that he is not working with expectations set by Haas or Ferrari.

“No specific goals have been set for me. The pressure mainly comes from my own expectations, as I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself.

My main goal is to continue learning and improving. Every time I drive the F1 car, I am gaining more experience.

Compared to other drivers, I have not completed as many laps in F1, so my focus is on continuous improvement and maximizing my potential.”

Bearman is about to make his second appearance in a Formula 1 Grand Prix this season, as Kevin Magnussen is just two points away from being banned from a race due to his behavior in Miami.

“I will be in Canada as a reserve for Ferrari, and I am also a reserve for Haas when I am not on duty for Ferrari. So, I am fully prepared,” Bearman said.

“I showed in Saudi Arabia that I am ready, so if I get the call, I will gladly step in.

Of course, it is not the ideal way to participate in a race, but if the situation arises, I will promptly comply.”
