Jack Miller confessed that he was having difficulties maintaining speed on his KTM MotoGP motorcycle at the French Grand Prix, describing his retirement as a perplexing situation. Miller was positioned at the bottom of the points before crashing at Turn 11 with 11 laps remaining. KTM had its worst weekend of the 2024 season, as rookie Pedro Acosta also fell from his bike early on. Miller’s concern was not only with the crash, but with his inability to maintain a competitive pace during the race, despite showing promising speed during the earlier warm-up on the day. According to Autosport, Miller stated: “I struggled to stay in the [1m]31s, struggled to do any 31s.” He further explained that his bike felt better as the race progressed, but he couldn’t identify any specific changes that led to the crash. Miller expressed his frustration in trying to understand what they can do differently to improve his performance. He acknowledged that it is a challenging time for him and the team. During practice and warm-up, Miller felt confident in his long runs with the race setup and no traffic. However, he couldn’t replicate the same speed during the race when surrounded by other riders. Despite not having a clear explanation for this discrepancy, Miller believes that he and KTM must collaborate to find a solution and reverse their luck. He mentioned having difficulties at Turn 1 during the sprint on Saturday afternoon, and the same issue persisted on race day. Miller expressed his confusion, stating that Turn 1 was not a problem during practice and the rest of the weekend. He emphasized his determination to understand the root cause and make the necessary adjustments. Miller concluded by expressing his commitment to finding a solution and his belief that things will eventually improve.
