Since 2019, the World Rally Championship (WRC) has not had any rounds in the United Kingdom. After the Wales event fell through, the Northern Ireland project has been failing to secure funding. Now, Scotland appears as a possibility.
According to Motorsport.com, last weekend the CEO of Motorsport UK, Hugh Chambers, and its president, David Richards, met with the WRC Promoter on the sidelines of the Rally Sweden. Simon Larkin, WRC Event Director, confirmed this meeting without going into much detail: ‘I would say it’s in a very, very early stage for them. We will just continue working with them. They asked us for some details and proposals from our side, and we will do that in the coming weeks and give them more data to proceed’.
Chambers revealed that there are three considered options, including Scotland, which would be a first, for a World Rally in British territory: ‘We are looking at all nations, revisiting Wales and having conversations with Scotland and looking at the north of England. We will not stop. There is no doubt that bringing back the WRC is a huge unfinished business for us’.
