Herta critica manobra imprudente de Ericsson na primeira volta.

Colton Herta demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in the recent IndyCar race at the Indianapolis circuit. Despite starting in 24th position, he made a remarkable ascent to seventh place.

However, Herta faced a significant challenge early in the race when his teammate Marcus Ericsson collided with him on the first lap. This collision caused Herta to go off track and into the gravel. With great difficulty, he managed to bring his Andretti Global Honda back onto the service road just before a tire barrier.

As a result of the incident, Ericsson received a penalty and was forced to drop to the back of the pack, joining Herta in a position where they could see the rest of the pack ahead on the track.

In an interview with NBC after the race, Herta expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions of his Swedish teammate, despite his own recovery to the top 10. Herta criticized Ericsson for his aggressive driving, stating: “Your teammate is leading the championship and you drive him recklessly. I can’t understand your thought process. He probably braked deeper than in qualifying and forced me off track. You need to show more intelligence. It’s absurd. I will definitely let him know how I feel.”

Herta has been vocal about his frustrations with other competitors as well, especially Team Penske’s explanations regarding the use of illegal software. However, he found solace in the number of positions he was able to gain over the course of the 85 laps of the race on Saturday.

Recognizing the need for improvements in his own team’s performance, the 24-year-old driver praised the solid pit stops and strategic decisions of the team. Herta credited the fuel strategy and well-executed pit stops for most of his position gains. He believed that, with the right circumstances, a podium was within his reach.

Herta’s impressive performance in this race extended his top 10 streak in all races this season. Currently, he sits in fourth place in the championship standings, just 25 points behind leader Alex Palou.
