Smart is ready to return to its original DNA. After years focused on compact SUVs, the brand reveals the new #2 Concept, a model that anticipates the return of the iconic city car concept — but now fully electric, more technological, and adapted to modern times.
A return to the roots… with a new identity
The Smart #2 Concept represents a clear shift in direction for the brand, which seeks to recapture the spirit of the legendary Smart Fortwo.
At just 2.79 meters long, it is significantly smaller than most current electric vehicles — and even about 80 cm shorter than a Fiat 500e.

Compact design, but full of personality
The concept bets on a distinct and highly detailed visual language:
- classic city car proportions, with wheels at the extremes
- short hood and compact shapes
- matte white paint with golden details
- triangular headlights with a “human” expression
At the front, the absence of a grille is replaced by a panel with decorative strips and golden buckles, reinforcing the conceptual character.
Creative details and strong visual identity
The #2 Concept is filled with distinguishing elements:
- LED lighting with “#” and “2” symbols
- coordinates of the Mercedes-Benz design studio integrated into the headlights
- door handles in the shape of leather strips
- wheels with a translucent design over golden spokes
All of this contributes to a unique and highly recognizable visual identity.
Dedicated electric platform
The production model will be based on the brand’s new electric architecture, the Electric Compact Architecture.
In technical terms, the concept anticipates:
- range of about 300 km (estimated WLTP)
- fast charging from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes
- V2L function to power external devices

European design, global production
Although it was presented in China and the brand is currently a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, the design of the model was developed exclusively by the global team at Mercedes-Benz.
Debut already confirmed
The production version of the Smart #2 will be officially revealed in October at the Paris Motor Show.
A city car for a new urban context
With this model, Smart aims to respond to the current needs of cities:
- efficient mobility
- compact dimensions
- ease of parking
- sustainability
Strategic return in a changing market
In a scenario dominated by SUVs, the return of a true city car may seem countercurrent — but it makes sense in an increasingly congested and restrictive urban context.

A small car with a big mission
The Smart #2 Concept is not just a design exercise. It is a clear signal that the brand wants to return to its roots, adapting the concept of urban mobility to a new electric era.
If the final version retains the spirit of this concept, it could become one of the most interesting proposals in the urban electric segment.
