BMW is entering a new strategic phase — and China is the epicenter of this transformation. At the Beijing Auto Show 2026, the German brand not only presented the update of its flagship Series 7 and i7 but also unveiled a new generation of electric models developed specifically for the Chinese market, featuring cutting-edge technology and impressive range.
China at the center of BMW's strategy
BMW has made its ambition clear: to start a “new chapter” in the world's largest automotive market.
To this end, it presented three key models:
- BMW Series 7 (facelift 2027)
- BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase
- BMW i3 Long Wheelbase
New electric generation with “Neue Klasse” DNA
The new i3 and iX3 are part of the next generation of electric vehicles from the brand, based on the Neue Klasse philosophy, which represents a technological leap in:
- design
- efficiency
- driving experience
Among the visual elements, the following stand out:
- illuminated three-dimensional double grille
- new “digital angel wings” signature
- front with “shark nose” design
Long versions for the Chinese market
One of the main differences of these versions is the focus on rear comfort:
- wheelbase greater than 3 meters
- more interior space
- specific adaptations to local preferences
Impressive range: over 1,000 km
According to the Chinese CLTC cycle, the new models promise benchmark values:
- BMW i3 Long Wheelbase → over 1,000 km
- BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase → over 900 km
These numbers place them among the electric vehicles with the highest range on the market.

Ultrafast charging
Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the models support charging up to 400 kW, allowing for approximately 400 km of range to be recovered in just 10 minutes.
Digital cockpit with Chinese artificial intelligence
The interior focuses on strong technological integration, with an iDrive system deeply adapted to the Chinese market.
It includes:
- 3D head-up display
- panoramic screen
- BMW OS X operating system
And, above all, a deep integration with local technology:
- AI-based virtual assistant from Alibaba and DeepSeek
- Gaode Maps navigation
- My BMW app based on Huawei HarmonyOS
Assisted driving adapted to Chinese traffic
The models include level 2 assisted driving systems, developed with Momenta AI technology, tailored to the complex traffic conditions in China.
Imminent launches
While the new global BMW i3 will only enter production in August 2026, the brand is accelerating the launch of the new Series 7 and i7, with production expected as early as July.
An Unprecedented Offensive
The BMW strategy in China combines:
- cutting-edge global technology
- deep local adaptation
- focus on luxury and digital experience
A New Standard for Premium Electric Vehicles
With superior range, fast charging, and advanced technological integration, these models demonstrate how far the next generation of electric vehicles can go.
