BMW has received requests from many North American dealers for the production of an X7 that is even larger than the current one. This is despite the flagship SUV of the brand, which has been on the market since March 2019 and is manufactured in Spartanburg, South Carolina, already measuring 5181 mm in length and 3105 mm in wheelbase, allowing for three rows of seats and up to seven places.
According to the dealers of the Munich brand, the X7 needs to offer larger dimensions to compete directly with successful rivals in the North American market in the premium segment, such as the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, or Infiniti QX80. In 2025, BMW promised a new generation of the model for 2027-28, the continuation of production in Spartanburg, and also the introduction of a variant powered by 100% electric motors (iX7).
Kirk Cordill, the strongman of the BMW Dealers Association in the U.S., stated to Automotive News: “We would gain a lot with a larger SUV, a vehicle capable of competing with the Escalade, Navigator, and QX80”. The Cadillac, for example, offers double the space available in the X7 in the third row of seats, benefiting from the fact that it measures 210 mm longer, 60 mm wider, and 11 mm taller.
According to Cordill, BMW could turn to Alpina, a brand that the Munich manufacturer recently absorbed, to reposition the X7 in the market. And North American dealers, the same official mentioned, are eagerly awaiting more news about the second generation of the SUV.
