Max Verstappen achieved his 16th victory of the season in the Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1 – thus extending his lead as he approaches the half-thousand points mark.

The Dutchman from Red Bull now has 491 points, compared to teammate Sergio Perez’s 240 points in second place. This means that Verstappen has more than double the points of his main pursuer.

The Mexican retired in the first lap and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is now closer again, 20 points behind. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) equaled Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) to reach fourth place. He is 37 points behind the top three.

In the fight for sixth place, Lando Norris (McLaren) still holds the position, but saw his gap to Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) narrow to three points. The British driver is 14 points behind Alonso.

At the bottom of the table, Daniel Ricciardo (AlphaTauri) finally scored his first points of the year and climbed to 17th place. Thus, from the current field, everyone has scored points, with Nyck de Vries still at zero – released by AlphaTauri after the British Grand Prix.

In the constructors’ standings, Red Bull reached 731 points, 360 more than Mercedes. The Germans, in turn, have a 22-point advantage over Ferrari in the battle for second place. McLaren solidified fourth place with 256 points, 20 more than Aston Martin.

The gap between the British brand and Alpine in sixth place is considerable, at 135 points. Haas is now in tenth and last place, four points behind the immediate rivals – AlphaTauri, who left the “red lantern,” and Alfa Romeo.
