The 24 hours of Le Mans recently took place, with Ferrari emerging victorious. The format of the WEC race is highly captivating, attracting many motorsport drivers. Several former Formula 1 drivers, including [names], have participated in the WEC after leaving the top of motorsport. In fact, even [name] expressed their desire to compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans at least once in their life.

Red Bull recently faced criticism for ignoring the 24 hours of Le Mans and dismissing the entire week as a non-racing week. However, this did not diminish the enthusiasm of their driver, Sergio Perez, for the WEC. Despite the team’s stance, the 34-year-old driver admitted that the only race that truly captured his attention was the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Furthermore, Perez believed that racing only in Formula 1 was not enough for his motorsport career. He sought a change of pace from competing in the faster single-seater cars. The Mexican driver considered Le Mans as an event that every driver dreams of participating in. Therefore, it would not be surprising if Perez decided to switch to the WEC after retiring from Formula 1.

Formula 1 has rapidly gained immense popularity worldwide, thanks to the continuous efforts of Liberty Media. Other categories of motorsport have also tried to replicate the success of F1 to attract more fans. However, none have come close to matching the numbers generated by Formula 1. Sergio Perez acknowledged the difficulty of finding a suitable replacement for Formula 1 in recent times.

However, the 34-year-old driver admitted that there weren’t many categories of motorsport that occurred to him as potential substitutes for F1. It is highly likely that Formula 1 will continue to dominate the motorsport scene for many more years in terms of viewership. Consequently, Perez emphasized that the only race that truly captivated him was Le Mans.

For now, Sergio Perez’s main focus remains on Formula 1 and helping Red Bull maintain its lead over competitors. The team is facing performance issues with the RB20 chassis, which has affected their recent races. Therefore, the 34-year-old driver must fare well to consider a transition to Le Mans later in his career, once he retires from the top of motorsport.
