The Chinese company Xiaomi has once again reinforced its intention to only sell its 100% electric cars outside of China starting in 2027.
Lei Jun, CEO of the smartphone manufacturer that is now also a car manufacturer, spoke during a live broadcast, where he reiterated that the company needs to focus on the domestic market until then, due to the strong order backlog for its SU7 and YU7 models.
Xiaomi had already announced 2027 as the first year for its international expansion of fully electric vehicles, but it has now made it clear that sales of Xiaomi models outside of China will only happen after 2027.
It should be noted that the electric sedan SU7, Xiaomi’s first model, surpassed the sales of Tesla’s Model 3, and the new SUV YU7 received over 200,000 reservation requests within three minutes after its presentation.
However, customers who reserved the YU7 will have to wait more than a year to receive Xiaomi’s new 100% electric model, which is generating a wave of complaints against the company. “We will strive to increase production capacity”, said Lei Jun, without revealing more details.
