Ford Pro, the division of the blue oval brand specializing in commercial vehicles, services, and solutions for businesses, announced the launch of a new variant of the Transit, a van in the manufacturer’s catalog since 1965 – over six decades of its career, it has recorded more than eight million units sold, the majority in the European market. And now, it has a new variant, the fifth in the family: the Transit City, produced with Jiangling Motors in Nanchang, China, and primarily aimed at companies seeking an electric solution for work in low-emission urban areas.
In Portugal, in 2025, there were 32,301 light commercial vehicles registered, a number very similar to that of 2024, with electric powertrains representing only 11% of registrations. Ford Pro, with the introduction of the Transit City, aims to contribute to the acceleration of electrification in the segment, with the L1H1 (4.985 m), L2H2 (5.285 m), and Chassis-Cab variants (5.200 m) still available in the range.
In the Transit City, with front-wheel drive, a 150 hp electric motor, a lithium-ion battery of the LFP type (lithium iron phosphate) with a capacity of 56 kWh, and up to 254 km of range in the combined WLTP cycle. According to Ford, it is possible to recharge 10%-80% of the battery charge in 33 minutes at a fast charging station with 87 kW, or in 4h30 at a connection of 11 kW. The energy regeneration system during deceleration offers the One Pedal function, capable of autonomously immobilizing the vehicle.
In Transit City, a maximum of 8.5 m3 of cargo space, for transport in compartments ranging from 2.770 m to 3.070 m in length, and up to 1275 kg of payload capacity. The Ford commercial vehicle, equipped with an abundant range of standard features, especially in the areas of connectivity and safety (the infotainment system includes a 12” central screen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections), promises to be capable of handling virtually all types of short-distance and quick deliveries, as well as distribution services, adding to the catalog of Ford’s most successful light commercial vehicle, alongside the Courier, Connect, Custom, and Transit variants.
