VW presented the ID. Cross Concept at the Munich Motor Show, which opened this Monday, anticipating the production SUV that is expected to arrive next year and will be the successor to the T-Cross.
Although it has practically the same wheelbase as the ID. Polo, 2.60 meters, the ID. Cross is longer, measuring 4.16 m, has a width of 1.83 m, and a height of 1.58 m. In addition, it features a trunk with a capacity of liters, along with a 25-liter glove compartment, something that no other ID EV, including the ID. Polo, offers.
Aesthetically, the ID. Cross Concept showcases some bolder and more modern design details than the ID. Polo, including a front section shaped by the interaction of LED lighting elements that VW describes as “friendly”, along with three illuminated rectangles embedded in the black “C” pillar, an intentional reference to both the ID. Buzz and the original Bus that inspired it.
Inside, the ID. Cross Concept is designed as an oasis of well-being, impressing with the excellent quality of materials and the tactile sensation, including fabric-covered surfaces. The pre-configured modes of light, sound, and climate (Atmospheres) transform the Vanilla Chai interior (a warm beige tone) into a true lounge that offers maximum comfort.
Floral patterns on the displays and real plants in the central console, which visually floats, reinforce the sense of well-being. Another highlight is the specially designed seats for this concept that can be fully folded down to create a reclining area in the style of a VW Kombi.
Also noteworthy is the 11” digital instrument panel placed in front of a robust and square two-spoke steering wheel, as well as a 13” central screen for the infotainment system.
Benefiting from feedback expressed by its customers, this ID. Cross Concept features physical buttons installed beneath the central screen, allowing control of the climate system.
VW confirmed that the ID. Cross Concept features a state-of-the-art propulsion system, recently developed, with an electric motor installed at the front and a high-voltage battery, the capacity of which has not been disclosed. However, VW announced that the electric motor of the Concept develops a power of 211 hp and the announced range is up to 420 km.
