Denny Hamlin’s Former Crew Chief Sparks Ty Gibbs’ Meteoric Rise in the Cup Series

In a stunning turn of events, Ty Gibbs’ journey in the 2025 Cup Series has taken a remarkable trajectory under the subtle guidance of Denny Hamlin’s former crew chief. What initially seemed like a season of modest progress for Gibbs has now transformed into a narrative of resilience, composure, and consistent contention.

The pivotal moment came at Michigan when Gibbs, vexed by a third-place finish, erupted in a burst of frustration over the team radio. However, instead of the expected escalation, a calming presence intervened – none other than Chris Gabehart, now serving as Joe Gibbs Racing’s competition director. Gabehart’s composed demeanor and strategic guidance have since propelled Gibbs to deliver some of his most exceptional performances, establishing him as a force to be reckoned with on the track.

Following the incident at Michigan, Gibbs has displayed remarkable maturity and focus, steering clear of public outbursts and instead showcasing a string of impressive finishes. From a disappointing start to the season with results like 32nd at Atlanta and 34th at COTA, Gibbs has now elevated his performance to an average finish of 8.8 over the last five races, marking a significant improvement attributed to Gabehart’s influence.

The recent highlight of Gibbs’ resurgence came at the Chicago Street Course, where he clinched a career-best second-place finish behind Shane van Gisbergen, significantly boosting his position in the standings. This outstanding performance not only underscored Gibbs’ growth on road courses but also reignited his playoff aspirations with a newfound momentum in the championship chase.

With just seven races remaining in the regular season, Gibbs’ remarkable upswing under the mentorship of Denny Hamlin’s former crew chief has positioned him as a rising star in the Cup Series, poised to make a substantial impact on the future of the sport.
