Toyota has officially launched its new fully electric coupe SUV, the bZ5, which is the brand’s third 100% electric model, following the bZ3 and the bZ4X.
Built on the e-TNGA platform, the bZ5, which is currently available for the Chinese market, comes equipped with BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate battery.
The new 100% electric model from Toyota is available with two battery options: 65.28 kWh and 73.984 kWh, which promise ranges of 550 km and 630 km, in the CLTC cycle.
The four versions of the new bZ5 feature an electric motor installed on the front axle from Fudi Power, offering 2709 hp of power and a maximum torque of 330 Nm. Toyota’s new electric vehicle supports fast charging of 90 kW, with a charging time from 30% to 80% of just 27 minutes.
With a length of 4.78 meters, a width of 1.86 m, a height of 1.51 m, and a wheelbase of 2.88 meters, the bZ5 retains the elements of Toyota’s Crossover EV concept, featuring a characteristic “hammerhead” front section, C-shaped headlights, and a full-width LED strip. The side profile adopts a sloping roofline typical of a coupe, retractable door handles, and 21-inch alloy wheels. The rear is marked by a light bar with an inverted C-shaped layout.
On its part, the interior features a minimalist and technological design, highlighted by a 15.6-inch floating screen for the infotainment system and a fully digital instrument panel. All models come equipped with nine SRS airbags, including side curtain airbags that extend from the A to C pillars and one between the front seats.
Additionally, Toyota’s new 100% electric model is equipped with ambient lighting featuring 256 colors, a JBL sound system with 10 speakers, acoustic glass, and front seats with a fully reclining function. Furthermore, the bZ5 also boasts a generous panoramic sunroof.
In terms of driver assistance and safety systems, the new bZ5 features Toyota Pilot, equipped with Momenta 5.0, which includes over 30 advanced driver assistance functions. The system utilizes up to 33 detection components, including a LiDAR unit, and is powered by a 544 TOPS computing platform, enabling urban NOA (Navigation on Autopilot) in various driving scenarios.
Remember that the bZ5 is produced in Tianjin, China, by the joint venture FAW Toyota, intended for the largest automotive market in the world, and it is uncertain whether it will arrive in Europe.
