Mercedes introduced a new flat bottom on the W14 at the United States Grand Prix in Formula 1, where it proved to be an asset. Something that has now been confirmed at the Mexico City Grand Prix, on a different track – on both occasions Lewis Hamilton finished second only behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull), although he was disqualified in Austin.

The performance in these two rounds is a reason for optimism for 2024 after the arrival of the new component. Mercedes’ executive director and team boss, Toto Wolff, said quoted by grandprix.com: ‘It gives confidence for 2024, yes. This is the direction we have been following, now we just have to continue to add performance for next year’.

And there are several reasons for satisfaction for the Austrian: ‘I am happy for several reasons. Lewis’ driving was incredible. We were not sure if the tire would last until the end, but the last lap was the fastest. The car was good. If we can do better in qualifying, maybe we can be in the front again’.
