Skoda is preparing to unveil a new concept that will showcase the future design of the Czech brand and will anticipate the next generation of the Octavia estate.
The revelation of the new concept will take place at the next edition of the Munich Motor Show in September, and Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda, in an interview with “Autocar” has already announced that the model will generate “a lot of excitement and controversy”, but also emphasized that “it will be clearly recognizable as a Skoda model”. Everything points to the concept being based on the new SSP electric vehicle platform from the VW Group, which is expected to replace the MEB architecture in the future.
The production version of the electric Octavia is not expected to arrive before the end of the decade, and Klaus Zellmer emphasized that it is possible that there will be an electric version alongside a model with an updated combustion engine to meet customer demand in both the fleet and private vehicle markets.
A new version of the plug-in hybrid is also on Skoda’s agenda, considering that the market in this segment is growing. “There is enough volume in the market for us to maintain two distinct powertrains in the range. It all depends on customer satisfaction, especially in the fleet market. We will keep all options open”, said Klaus Zellmer.
