Polestar continues to work on expanding its production to Europe and has now announced a memorandum of understanding with Volvo Cars for the production of the Polestar 7 in Košice, Slovakia, ahead of the planned launch of the 100% electric premium compact SUV scheduled for 2028.
It is already known that the Polestar 7 will be developed based on the architectures of the Geely Holding Group and will make use of a technological platform from Volvo Cars, thus sharing a number of components from the group, including cutting-edge cell-body technology with high density and battery performance, as well as the next generation of internally developed electric motors.
Although it has not revealed details of the new model, the Swedish company described the Polestar 7 as a “very progressive SUV” with a unique architecture, simplifying processes, reducing costs, and optimizing investments.
“Working with Volvo Cars to develop and produce the Polestar 7 in Europe is a unique opportunity that will strengthen our position in the domestic market. Our strategy of using the Group’s architectures as a basis for our future model lineup allows access to the best and latest technologies in a cost-effective manner. With instantly recognizable design and sporty driving characteristics, the Polestar 7 will set new standards in the premium compact SUV segment.”, said Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar.
