Stellantis will recall 91,787 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the U.S. due to a software error in the hybrid control processor, which can cause a sudden loss of power, increasing the risk of collision.
The announcement made by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that the problem affects 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee models, occurring when the Hybrid Control Processor “incorrectly interprets a signal from the Battery Control Module (BPCM), which may become overloaded and restart, potentially causing a loss of power.”
The NHTSA note also warns that drivers receive no indication, such as a warning light on the dashboard, that there is a problem with the vehicle.
To resolve the issue, Stellantis will call affected models to workshops, and owners will receive a notification by mail next month to visit a dealership.
