Sainz’s Ferrari Farewell: The Final Sprint Before a Rocky Road at Williams

Autumn Break Renewal Fuels Carlos Sainz’s Mexico GP Victory and Ferrari’s Late-Season Surge

In a bombshell move that’s rocked the Formula 1 world, Carlos Sainz is gearing up to leave the iconic scarlet of Ferrari behind after just three more races. His next stop? Williams—a team that’s far from the podium dreams that fans associate with the Spaniard’s name. With victory seeming like a pipe dream at his new home, the pressure is on Sainz to make his final moments with Ferrari count.

And he knows it.

The 29-year-old Spaniard, who has etched his name in F1 history with all four of his wins in Ferrari red, is setting his sights on one last hurrah before the curtain closes on this chapter. The triple-header of Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi will mark Sainz’s last stand with Ferrari—his best shot at adding a fifth victory to his résumé.

“Nothing would make me happier than achieving something like that before the end of the year,” Sainz declared, his voice a mix of grit and determination. “I’m going to give it my absolute best. If it comes, great—I’ll be celebrating. And if it doesn’t, I don’t believe it will be my last chance of fighting for wins or podiums in Formula 1.”

Williams: A Leap of Faith or a Step Back?

Leaving Ferrari—a team synonymous with championship ambition—for Williams, a team clawing its way back to relevance, is a move many would call career suicide. But Sainz doesn’t see it that way. He’s banking on Williams’ upward trajectory, spearheaded by team principal James Vowles, and a vision that’s more about people than performance.

“Talking to James, I was impressed by the vision and professionalism of the organization. It wasn’t just about where the car would be in six months or a year—it was about the long-term project and the people behind it,” Sainz explained.

Williams has shown glimpses of improvement in 2024, but the team is still lightyears away from being a consistent contender. Sainz, however, is ready to get his hands dirty. “I’ll remain working hard to get myself in a position—even if it’s with Williams or in the future—to win another race. That’s what I’m hungry for, and I’ve proven I can do it with Ferrari,” he asserted.

A Ferrari Farewell in Style?

For Ferrari, this season has been a rollercoaster. The team hit a low in São Paulo but bounced back with wins in Mexico (courtesy of Sainz) and Austin (Charles Leclerc). As Sainz preps for his final races in red, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi offer one last chance for him to shine and solidify his legacy with the Scuderia.

With two victories already this season—in Australia and Mexico City—Sainz has shown he can deliver under pressure. Now, the question is whether he can channel that same magic in his swan song.

Legacy in the Making

Sainz’s Ferrari journey may be coming to an end, but he’s not dwelling on it. Instead, he’s laser-focused on leaving on a high note while plotting his path to make Williams competitive again. It’s an uphill battle, no doubt, but if there’s one thing Sainz has proven, it’s that he thrives when the odds are stacked against him.

The Ferrari faithful will soon bid farewell to the Spaniard, but as he steps into his next chapter, Sainz is determined to prove that his story is far from over. Will Williams become the fairy-tale comeback story of F1—or a cautionary tale? Only time will tell.
