Sainz lamenta causar danos à Ferrari em curvas rápidas da F1.

Ferrari faced difficulties in keeping up with their competitors during the qualifying session in Spain. Carlos Sainz expressed his frustration, as he believes that the bouncing movement experienced in high-speed corners hindered Ferrari’s chances of securing pole position in the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix. Despite expecting a strong recovery after a disappointing weekend in Canada, Ferrari’s performance fell short compared to their rivals. Both Charles Leclerc and Sainz were over three tenths of a second behind the fastest lap time. Sainz revealed that the recurring bouncing issue affected Ferrari’s performance throughout the weekend, especially in high-speed corners. This phenomenon not only compromised their prospects but also had a negative impact on the tires in the third sector. Sainz acknowledged that, despite being in the third year of the current regulations, Ferrari has been unable to eliminate this problem. He compared Ferrari’s difficulties with the smooth performances of McLaren and Red Bull, suggesting that they have done a better job in this regard. Ferrari has tried various solutions since the introduction of the ground effect regulations in 2022, but the problem persists. Sainz mentioned that they have some ideas to solve the problem, but they have not yet found a definitive solution. They will continue to seek answers and work to resolve the bouncing issue.

Sainz emerged as the leading driver during the final practice session, which led him to admit that he believed he had a chance to secure pole position on his home turf. However, his hopes were dashed during Q2, when it became evident that both Red Bull and McLaren had an advantage over his team.

“I was disappointed because, based on our performance in the free practice sessions, I thought we could compete for pole position this weekend. But in Q2, it became clear that we weren’t quite at the same level. So, while we can argue that a few hundredths of a second more would put us in P3, the reality is that I’m more focused on the difference between me and Lando than the difference to Mercedes, as three and a half tenths is a significant difference in lap time in Barcelona.”

Like Leclerc, Sainz emphasizes that the recent improvements made by the team have provided the expected improvements. He believes that the team’s difficulties are more related to the specific characteristics of the track.

“The improvements seem to be working well,” commented Sainz. “With all the improvements that everyone has brought, we are currently three and a half tenths behind. If we look at Suzuka, in Japan, we were also three and a half tenths slower, maybe even half a second. So, it seems that performance is very track-dependent for everyone.”

“The only team that clearly entered the fight is Mercedes. In addition, McLaren’s upgrade in Miami allowed them to overtake us. So, we need to keep pushing and bringing improvements. We will probably need to find something that unlocks more performance, especially on medium to high-speed tracks, where drivability and jumps are still crucial.”
