Robert Kubica demands Ferrari surrender lead as Le Mans drama reaches peak

In a nail-biting turn of events at the 18-hour Le Mans race, tensions soared as Ferrari maintained its stronghold at the forefront, showcasing its dominance in the World Endurance Championship. The #83 Ferrari, piloted by Robert Kubica, posed a threat to the leading #51 car, creating internal strife within the Ferrari team. Kubica, adamant about his superior pace, demanded to overtake the #51 car driven by Antonio Giovinazzi, citing his previous support to the team during the race.

The race took a dramatic twist as both Ferraris made crucial pit stops around the 6-hour 20-minute mark, briefly propelling the #6 Porsche into the lead until it made its own stop. Adding to the tension, the leading duo faced drive-through penalties for violating yellow flag regulations, intensifying the competition.

Meanwhile, Cadillac faced setbacks with the retirement of the #101 car and technical issues plaguing the #311 car, forcing an early exit from the race. Alpine’s #36 car triggered a full-course yellow after a spin by Jules Gounon, further shaking up the competition.

In the LMP2 class, the #43 Inter Europol car held the lead but came under scrutiny for potentially gaining an unfair advantage off the track, putting its position in jeopardy. The LMGT3 category saw the #92 Porsche maintaining a slim lead over its closest competitor, despite grappling with penalties for yellow flag violations similar to the leading Hypercar contenders.

As the race hurtled towards its conclusion, anticipation mounted for the declaration of the 24 Hours of Le Mans winner at the chequered flag. Stay tuned for RacingNews365’s comprehensive coverage of the event’s top finishers in each class!
