Revolutionary Madrid Grand Prix Circuit Construction Deal Seals Fate of F1’s Future

The highly anticipated Madrid Grand Prix has put all doubts to rest by securing a major construction deal for the 2026 Formula 1 race. The organizers have inked a contract with renowned construction firms, ACCIONA from Spain and Eiffage Construction from France, to jointly build the 5.47km hybrid street circuit near Madrid’s Barajas airport and the IFEMA fairgrounds.

Initially scheduled to kick off construction in April, the project faced setbacks in the procurement process, causing concerns about meeting the September 2026 debut deadline. However, a new deadline has been set for early May, emphasizing the urgency to stick to a 14-month timeline.

Excitingly, building permits are expected to be approved next week, paving the way for construction to commence shortly after. Madrid Mayor, Jose Luis Martinez Almeida, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “At last, after more than 40 years, Formula 1 will return to the streets of Madrid.”

The upcoming Madrid Grand Prix is set to take over the Spanish Grand Prix title from Barcelona, which is slated to host its final race in 2026 unless a new agreement is reached. With Imola’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix likely to lose its spot on the calendar, all eyes are on Madrid as it gears up to bring the thrill of Formula 1 back to its streets in spectacular fashion.
