Toprak Razgatlioglu, Misano, BMW Motorrad
Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, from ROKiT BMW Motorrad team, dominated the World Superbike field to claim victory in the Superpole Race at Misano.
The Turkish rider aimed to win all three races of the weekend, and his success on Sunday morning left him just one victory away from his goal.
Meanwhile, Nicolo Bulega from Aruba.it Racing – Ducati only managed to secure second place, as his teammate Alvaro Bautista had a crash during the race.
Points were awarded to the top nine finishers, with the winner receiving 12 points and the ninth-placed rider earning a single point.
The 10-lap race was also crucial as it determined the starting positions for Race 2, with the first three rows of the grid based on the results of the Superpole Race.
Bulega made a good start but went off track at turn 1, allowing Razgatlioglu to regain the lead and Alex Lowes from Kawasaki Racing Team to take second position.
Remy Gardner had a difficult start from the front row and dropped to eighth place on his Yamaha GYTR GRT.
However, Bulega quickly recovered and overtook Lowes and Razgatlioglu early in the second lap.
Sam Lowes had another crash on the second lap, his second in two races on the Ducati Marc VDS, and Gardner’s race worsened as he collided with Garrett Gerloff from Bonovo Action team.
Bulega and Razgatlioglu continued to dominate at the front, setting lap records and fiercely battling for the win with seven laps to go.
Razgatlioglu took the lead at turn 8 of the fourth lap, maintaining his advantage over Bulega in the following turns and the pit straight.
The Turkish rider further increased the pace, but Bulega remained close.
However, Bautista’s luck changed when he crashed in turn 10 on the fifth lap, dropping from fourth to 21st position.
Razgatlioglu maintained a consistent pace in the 1:32 range, showcasing his qualifying performance and extending his lead over Bulega to nine tenths of a second with three laps remaining.
With a second and a half between him and Bulega, Razgatlioglu crossed the finish line to secure a stylish victory, increasing his championship lead over Bautista by 15 points and demonstrating his skill on the BMW M 1000 RR.
Bulega finished 1.651 seconds behind in second place, while Alex Lowes completed the podium with an impressive performance on his ZX-10RR.
Andrea Locatelli of the Pata Prometeon Yamaha finished fourth for the second consecutive race, followed by Andrea Iannone of the GoEleven Ducati team in fifth.
Alex Lowes’ teammate, Axel Bassani, finished in sixth place, ahead of Iker Lecuona of the HRC Honda team, who showed improvement with his CBR1000 RR-R.
Jonathan Rea finished in eighth place as he seeks to regain his form on his new Yamaha YZF R1, and Danilo Petrucci of the Barni Ducati secured an impressive ninth place while continuing to recover from an injury, earning a spot on the third row for Race 2 on Sunday afternoon.
Dominique Aegerter of the GYTR GRT Yamaha finished in 10th place, followed by Michael Ruben Rinaldi of the Motocorsa Ducati.
