Pulling garante primeira posição na qualificação da Academia Espanhola de F1.

Abbi Pulling, the current championship leader, will start in first position for both races of the F1 Academy in Barcelona. In Friday’s qualifying session, Pulling recorded the two fastest times, with a late effort of 1:41.396s securing her the first place. Chloe Chambers and Nerea Marti finished in second and third place, respectively, setting the top three positions on the Race 1 grid. The trio was separated by just 0.133s. Pulling’s second fastest time determined the grid for Race 2, guaranteeing her the pole position on Sunday. This marks her second consecutive pole position.

The qualifying session promised to be highly competitive, as the top 11 drivers in the practice sessions were separated by nine tenths of a second. Unlike Jeddah and Miami, the F1 Academy drivers are familiar with the Barcelona circuit, as it hosted the series in its inaugural season in 2023 and also served as a venue for pre-season testing in 2024.

Carrie Schreiner, driving for Sauber, initially set the benchmark with a time of 1:44.201s, which she then improved with a lap of 1:43.361s. However, Abbi Pulling soon surpassed her, showcasing her impressive form. Pulling’s first effort of 1:42.540s was momentarily displaced by Bianca Bustamante of McLaren and Chloe Chambers of Haas, who recorded times of 1:42.224s and 1:42.540s, respectively.

Pulling’s main rival in the championship, Doriane Pin of Mercedes, currently recovering from a cycling injury, climbed to the top of the time tables with a lap of 1:41.988s. The drivers continued to push the pace, with Chambers recording a lap time of 1:41.926s, temporarily putting her in pole position.

With just over five minutes remaining in the session, Bustamante recorded a lap time of 1:41.921s, surpassing Chambers’ time. However, Pulling responded by setting a lap time of 1:41.544s, putting three tenths between her and the rest of the competition. Nerea Marti then surpassed Pulling with a lap time of 1:41.529s.

Chambers reclaimed the first position with a lap time of 1:41.455s, as the times continued to drop. However, Pulling managed to secure the fastest time of 1:41.396s, leaving little time for her competitors to respond. This time remained unbeatable, guaranteeing Pulling the pole position for Race 1 on Saturday.

The grid for Race 1 will feature Chambers and Marti behind Pulling, with Pin starting on the second row alongside Marti. Red Bull Racing’s Hamda Al Qubaisi and Williams’ Lia Block will form the fourth row. Jess Edgar, supported by American Express, and Lola Lovinfosse, representing Charlotte Tilbur, complete the top 10 positions on the grid.

For Race 2, the top 10 drivers remain the same, albeit in a slightly different order. Pulling’s second consecutive pole position puts her at the front of the grid for Sunday’s race. Her second best time, a lap time of 1:41.544s, was 0.076s faster than Chambers, ensuring her two front-row starts. Pin will start in third position for Race 2, sharing the second row with Marti. H. Al Qubaisi and Block also secured the top five positions on Sunday’s grid. Hausmann, Bustamante, Edgar, and Lovinfosse complete the fourth and fifth rows for Race 2.
