Abbi Pulling, a victorious driver for Rodin Motorsport, celebrated her victory in parc fermé after race 2 of the FIA Formula Academy in Miami, Florida, USA, on May 5, 2024.
Pulling’s winning streak continued in Barcelona as she dominated race 1 from start to finish, securing another victory in the F1 Academy.
The current championship leader, Pulling, showcased her dominance in the F1 Academy qualifying by securing pole positions for both races in Barcelona.
After a slow start, Doriane Pin, a strong contender in the championship, displayed an impressive recovery as she returned to racing after an injury.
Pulling made a fantastic start, launching her Rodin Motorsport car off the line and successfully defending against Chloe Chambers, who was under pressure from Nerea Marti.
Marti managed to overtake Chambers on the outside at Turn 1, securing the second position on the podium and aiming for victory on her home turf.
Unfortunately, Pin’s start was hindered, causing her to lose eight positions on lap 1 due to a collision between Amna Al Qubaisi and Maya Weug.
Pin’s car, from Prema Racing, rear-ended Weug in the congested field, resulting in an accident between Weug and Al Qubaisi at Turn 5.
Both cars, the MP Motorsport and Prema Racing, ended up stuck in the gravel, requiring marshals to remove them from the track.
As a result of the incident, both drivers had to retire early from the race, significantly impacting Weug’s position in the driver standings.
After a long period under the safety car, Pulling pulled away from the pack at Turn 14 to lead the race after the restart.
Pin, a French driver, made her comeback to racing after suffering fractured ribs and withdrawing from the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Emely De Heus successfully defended her position against Tina Hausmann’s attempt to overtake her on the inside at Turn 7 on lap 7, facing pressure from Lia Block.
Block closely followed the Prema Racing driver, briefly managing to overtake her at Turn 12 before losing the position in the following corner.
Pin moved up to 11th position, overtaking Carrie Schreiner at Turn 2 while seeking to secure points despite the damage caused by the incident on lap 1.
Chambers faced intense pressure from Bianca Bustamente in fourth place, as Bustamente reduced the gap to 0.5 seconds in search of a podium position.
Pulling set the fastest lap on lap 9, extending her lead to 1.9 seconds ahead of Marti, who was eager for a victory at her home track.
Jessica Edgar received a five-second penalty for a false start, potentially causing her to drop from sixth position and miss out on points.
The French driver continued her pursuit of a favorable position in the race, closely following Lola Lovinfosse and attempting to overtake her on the outside at Turn 1 during the tenth lap.
Black and white flags were raised for Chambers, who was in third place, for exceeding track limits and facing pressure from Bustamente.
The Iron Dame secured the final points-scoring position from Lovinfosse, forcing her to take a wider line at Turn 13 on the tenth lap.
Block persisted in her battle for eighth place against Hausmann, closing in to a margin of 0.3s behind the Aston Martin-sponsored driver.
Pin took advantage of Block’s poor exit from Turn 14, overtaking her on the inside and securing ninth place as they entered Turn 1 on the twelfth lap.
Hausmann now found herself under pressure from the determined French driver, who aimed to secure crucial points for her championship campaign.
Pulling managed to create a 2.8s difference between her and Marti in second place, while the rest of the pack fought for points to defend against the advancing Pin.
The junior Mercedes driver successfully claimed the position of her Prema Racing teammate, Hausmann, by taking a wider line on the fourteenth lap, moving up to seventh place.
Pulling emerged as the winner, leading Marti by 4.7s and securing her fourth victory of the season, along with the fastest lap.
Chambers secured third place on the podium, with Bustamente in fourth and Hamda Al Qubaisi in fifth.
De Heus managed to hold off Pin and secured sixth place, while the French driver closed the gap to Edgar and claimed seventh place after serving her penalty.
Hausmann secured ninth place in the points, ahead of Block, while fighting for points after an unlucky race two months ago.
