Oscar Piastri Faces Tough Choices: Win the Championship or Leave McLaren!

In a stunning revelation that could shake the foundations of Formula 1, Guenther Steiner has thrown down the gauntlet to rising Australian star Oscar Piastri. The former Haas team principal has boldly stated that if Piastri fails to secure the championship title this season, he must either regroup during the winter break and return to McLaren with a vengeance in 2026, or face the daunting prospect of leaving the iconic Woking-based team.

Currently embroiled in a fierce battle for his first drivers’ championship, Piastri finds himself in a nail-biting contest against his teammate Lando Norris and the formidable Max Verstappen from Red Bull. With only three races remaining in the season, Piastri is sitting precariously in second place, trailing Norris by a mere 24 points while holding a slender 25-point lead over Verstappen. The pressure is mounting as the clock ticks down.

Steiner, sharing his insights on The Red Flags Podcast, emphasized the urgency of the situation. “Especially if he doesn’t win the championship, I think he has got a good chance to get in any other good car,” he declared, insinuating that Piastri’s potential could be wasted if he remains stagnant at McLaren. “He’s a good driver and change sometimes is good. He’s young enough; he can adapt to it. He should and I think he will. That’s my opinion.”

The stakes couldn’t be higher for Piastri. Despite his undeniable talent, the Australian driver has struggled to secure a podium finish since the Italian Grand Prix, raising eyebrows and concerns. With Verstappen hot on his heels, Steiner is convinced that if Piastri is mentally shaken, the Dutch ace will undoubtedly overtake him in the standings. “Why not? He continues to do it. If you say Oscar is now destroyed mentally, then Max will be ahead of him, absolutely,” Steiner warned.

The pressure is palpable as Piastri heads into the final stretch of the season. He needs to summon a surge in performance to reclaim his standing. The Las Vegas Grand Prix, set to take place from November 20-22, marks the start of a critical triple-header that will define the fate of Piastri’s season—and potentially his career.

As the championship battle heats up, Piastri stands at a crossroads. Will he rise to the occasion and prove his mettle, or will he be forced to consider a new path? The world of Formula 1 is watching closely, and one thing is certain: if this season doesn’t end in triumph, a seismic shift in Piastri’s career could be on the horizon.
