Opel started 2026 with solid performance, recording significant global growth in the first quarter, primarily driven by the renewal of the SUV range and strong demand in key European markets.
Global growth close to 8%
Between January and March, Opel and its sister brand Vauxhall sold more than 157,000 vehicles, including passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, which represents an increase of nearly 8% compared to the same period in 2025.

SUVs lead the expansion
The main contributors to this growth were the new SUVs launched in 2025:
- Opel Mokka
- Opel Frontera
- Opel Grandland
All recorded double-digit growth.
The Frontera stands out particularly in its electric version, being:
- the best-selling electric B-SUV in the United Kingdom
- 4th in the segment in Spain
- 5th in the Netherlands
Corsa maintains leadership in the B segment
The Opel Corsa continues to be one of the pillars of the brand, maintaining strong demand.
In Germany, it has led the segment for over five years and recorded a growth of 25% in March. For the quarter, it remains the best-selling city car in Germany and the United Kingdom.
In markets such as Portugal, Belgium, and Turkey, it continues to rank among the three best-selling models in the segment.
Europe drives results
In Europe (EU29), Opel and Vauxhall sold over 115,000 passenger vehicles, an increase of 18% compared to the previous year.
The market share rose to 3.3%, reflecting positive performance in most countries.
Germany in the spotlight
In the domestic market, Opel recorded significant growth:
- 33,600 vehicles sold in the quarter (+39%)
- market share of 4.8%
- in March: +43% in registrations
Portugal follows positive trend
Also in Portugal, the brand reported encouraging results:
- 3,440 units sold in the quarter
- growth of 45% in passenger vehicles
- climbed two positions in the national ranking
In total (VP+VCL), Opel grew 10%, above the market average, which rose 8%.
New Astra may boost growth
CEO Florian Huettl also highlighted the start of production of the new Astra, which could give a new boost to the brand throughout the year.

With a renewed range, strong investment in SUVs, and good performance in key European markets, Opel enters 2026 with positive indicators and the ambition to continue growing.
