Nigel Mansell is throwing down the gauntlet with a heartfelt plea for Lewis Hamilton to clinch an unprecedented eighth world championship—this time donning the iconic red of Ferrari! In an explosive interview with Sky Sports F1, the 1992 World Champion expressed his “romantic” desire for Hamilton to etch his name further into the annals of Formula 1 history, despite the fierce competition from a new generation of racers like McLaren's Lando Norris.

Hamilton, now 41, faced a brutal 2025 season, finishing a disappointing sixth in the standings and failing to secure a single podium finish. However, the tides seem to be turning in 2026, as the seven-time champion kicked off the year with a podium in China, currently sitting in fourth place. With Ferrari showing signs of resurgence, Hamilton's aspirations for victory are reignited, even as they continue to chase the early-season speed of Mercedes.

Mansell, ever the advocate for Hamilton, made his hopes clear: “I'm going to be romantic. I'd like Lewis to do it. Lando has so many years ahead of him; he can do it again. But come on, Lewis! It's special. You've done so many things, mate. Let's just finish it off.” The urgency in Mansell's voice suggests that this could be one of Hamilton's last chances to add to his illustrious title count.

As the championship gears up for the legendary Silverstone circuit in July, Mansell is optimistic about Hamilton's potential to secure a historic tenth home win. “Odds on, odds on,” he declared with enthusiasm. “Lewis is fired up again. He’s had a brilliant career, and it's fantastic what he's doing. Ferrari has done a fabulous job over the winter. They’re there or thereabouts—Mercedes are the frontrunners, and McLaren will be in the mix too.”

With the ever-shifting dynamics of Formula 1, any regulatory tweaks by the FIA could dramatically alter the competitive landscape before they hit Silverstone. Mansell anticipates an electrifying race ahead, stating, “I think it’ll be very close. I’m hoping for an epic race. There are six or seven drivers that can win, which is lovely.”

As the F1 world watches and waits, the stakes have never been higher for Hamilton. Will he rise to the occasion and fulfill Mansell's romantic vision of victory, or will the younger generation steal the spotlight? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the battle for the championship is heating up, and Hamilton's quest for glory is far from over!
