“New Honda Prelude causes a stir in Japan.”

Novo Honda Prelude faz furor no Japão

The latest generation of the Honda Prelude, the sixth since the launch of the original model in 1988, is expected to arrive in the European market in early 2026, but only with hybrid and:HEV powertrains. Meanwhile, in Japan, within just one month of its commercial career, the model recorded orders that were no less than eight times higher than what its manufacturer expected – a trend that, if it continues, will make it a success as significant as, perhaps, unexpected, since the fact that it uses an electrified powertrain, devoid of a manual transmission, raised doubts for many regarding its acceptance.

After all, at least judging by the first thirty days of presence in the domestic market, it seems that this is not the case, as a name that strongly evokes the sporting legacy of both the Prelude and Honda itself may be decisively contributing to this performance. As for the numbers, they are illustrative: between September 5 and October 6, Honda received no less than 2400 orders for its new coupe in the domestic market, eight times more than anticipated by the brand itself – to the point that several dealers decided to preemptively suspend the ordering process, in order to ensure a substantial increase in production capacity, capable of reducing delivery times.

Data released by Honda indicates that most Prelude customers are between 50 and 60 years old, and are drivers looking for a first or second car. More than 60% chose the exterior color white, followed by grey, black, and red at the top of the preferences. As for the special launch series Limited Edition, with two-tone paint, it is already sold out.
