DS Penske’s Maximilian Guenther set the pace in Formula E testing at Spain’s Circuito del Jarama, clocking a blistering 1m28.408s lap in the final hour of the afternoon session. His fast lap came just after a red flag for track repairs, and with the top ten drivers covered by just 0.389 seconds, the competition was intense.
Kiro Race Co., running Porsche powertrains, also impressed, with Dan Ticktum securing the second-fastest time in the afternoon and David Beckman finishing fourth. Ticktum, who also held a top spot in the morning, was split by Jean-Eric Vergne in the other DS Penske car. Nyck de Vries and Mahindra teammate Edoardo Mortara took fifth and sixth, while Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy and Mitch Evans made a strong showing despite a delayed start due to a cost cap penalty, finishing seventh and tenth, respectively.
Andretti’s Jake Dennis, the highest-placed driver using current-spec Porsche technology, and Lola Yamaha Abt’s Zane Maloney also made the top ten. Cassidy recovered from a morning stoppage without further issues, rounding out a solid day for Jaguar.
Elsewhere, Nico Mueller finished 11th, just ahead of Oliver Rowland, who joined pre-season testing after Nissan’s own cost-cap penalty delay. Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa ended the afternoon session 13th and 14th, respectively, after placing in the top ten earlier.
Maserati’s Jake Hughes, who led the morning session, focused on long runs and race pace in the afternoon, ending up 21st as a result. His teammate, Stoffel Vandoorne, also dedicated his time to race simulations, closing out the day in 22nd position. McLaren’s Sam Bird triggered a morning red flag with an off-track excursion but later resumed without incident, while his teammate Taylor Barnard completed a low-key run.
As Formula E testing progresses, DS Penske’s strong showing and Kiro Race Co.’s competitive Porsche powertrains hint at an exciting season ahead, with teams fine-tuning their strategies before the first race.
