A Red Bull Figure Under Fire: Max Verstappen’s Controversial Penalty Sparks Outrage

In a shocking turn of events at the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen found himself at the center of controversy after receiving a penalty that has sent shockwaves through the F1 world. The Dutch driver was penalized for an incident involving George Russell, which ultimately cost him valuable points in the championship race.

Former racing driver Robert Doornbos didn’t hold back in his criticism, placing the blame on a key Red Bull figure for the penalty that derailed Verstappen’s race. The incident in question occurred when Russell made a bold move on Verstappen, forcing the champion off the track. Despite initially emerging ahead, Verstappen was instructed by his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, to give back the position to Russell.

Doornbos slammed Lambiase’s quick judgment, stating, “You make that call together… Leave that choice to the driver, instead of imposing it.” The miscommunication between Lambiase and Verstappen only added to the frustration, with Doornbos highlighting the failure of the Red Bull team in handling the situation appropriately.

The Spanish Grand Prix was a missed opportunity for Red Bull to gain ground in the championship battle, with Verstappen’s penalty proving costly. Opting for a three-stop strategy to counter McLaren’s dominance, Red Bull still struggled to match their rivals’ pace. As a result, Verstappen plummeted to P10 after serving his penalty, leaving Spain with just one point and trailing behind current standings leader Oscar Piastri by a significant 49 points.

Verstappen’s championship hopes have taken a severe blow following the events in Spain, raising questions about Red Bull’s decision-making and the team’s ability to support their star driver. With the title race heating up, every point lost could have far-reaching consequences in the battle for F1 supremacy.
