Richard Lietz achieved a historic victory in the 92nd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, becoming the first winner in the LMGT3 era. Lietz, along with teammates Yasser Shahin and Morris Schuring, claimed first place in a race that featured nine manufacturers competing for GT honors. Throughout the challenging event, many competitors in this category were forced to retire due to unfortunate circumstances, but there were those who persevered and made it to the finish line. The race saw intense competition among the top five manufacturers early on, with battles both on and off the track. Bronze-rated drivers faced a challenging task as they had to deal with highly skilled professionals and defend their positions. Despite the obstacles, Ben Barker of Proton Competition managed to secure third place early on, showcasing the potential of the Ford Mustang GT3. The Inception Racing McLaren 720S, driven by Frederic Schandorff, claimed pole position and built a strong lead in the first few hours of the race. As the race progressed, teams began alternating their Bronze and Silver-rated drivers, each of them required to drive for a minimum of six hours. The Circuit de la Sarthe provided an exciting spectacle with several overtakes, highlighting the close racing and skill required to navigate the challenging track conditions. Rain played a significant role in the race, making the track slippery and testing the drivers’ ability to adapt. The battle between McLaren and Ford continued throughout the race, with the Proton Ford joining the fight in fourth place. However, the efforts of the #77 Ford were hampered by front suspension issues, forcing them into an extended repair in the garage. Despite setbacks, both the #77 Ford and the #88 Mustang showed great resilience and performed admirably in their Le Mans debut. The race also marked the highly anticipated Le Mans debut of MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, who had previously participated in the Road to Le Mans support event. Unfortunately, the race was not without its incidents, including contact between the cars of Martin and Hanley during a safety car period. The #46 Team WRT BMW M4 suffered a major setback when it broke down on Al Harthy, causing the car to make contact with the wall and get stuck in the gravel. Intense rain during the night and early morning led to a reduction in on-track action for safety reasons. This provided teams with the opportunity to perform brake changes, highlighting the importance of brake components in endurance racing. The next day, an exciting battle unfolded among the top three cars, with the Akkodis ASP, Porsche, and BMW teams fighting for victory. McLaren was well represented by United Autosports, who ventured into LMGT3 racing this year alongside their prototype efforts. TF Sport faced electrical issues with their Corvette Z06 LMGT3.R, but the team showed perseverance and managed to continue the race after making necessary repairs. In the final hours, the gaps between the leaders in the LMGT3 category widened, with the #91 Manthey EMA Porsche team asserting their dominance. In the end, the #91 team of Lietz, Shahin, and Schuring claimed victory in the WEC, securing their position as championship leaders. The #31 Team WRT BMW M4 and the #88 Proton Competition Ford Mustang completed the podium. The Ford Mustang also impressed with a fifth-place finish in its Le Mans debut. The Iron Dames team completed the top five in their Lamborghini Huracan. Six retirements occurred in the LMGT3 category, including AF Corse, WRT, JMW Motorsport, Heart of Racing, and the two United Autosports McLarens.
