Liam Lawson reveals some truth about Max Verstappen’s surprising kindness and support

Liam Lawson Lifts the Lid on His Surprising Bond with Max Verstappen

In the electrifying world of Formula 1, relationships can be as complex as the cars themselves. Yet, Liam Lawson has revealed a heartwarming connection with none other than Max Verstappen, the reigning champion. Despite only racing alongside the Dutch superstar for a mere two grand prix, Lawson's experience has been nothing short of enlightening.

The young New Zealander, who was thrust into the spotlight as Sergio Perez's temporary replacement, faced the daunting task of stepping into the Red Bull team—an environment known for its high pressure and fierce competition. Although Lawson's time with Verstappen was brief, he has emerged from the experience with valuable insights into the champion's character.

On a recent episode of the Gypsy Tales podcast, Lawson opened up about Verstappen's generous nature, stating, “He's also so, so nice — like, as a person, he's such a nice guy. Through everything that happened last year with Red Bull, he was so good to me.” This kind of praise is rare in the cutthroat world of F1, where rivalries often overshadow camaraderie.

Lawson, who initially struggled to adapt to the intricacies of the RB21, found a surprising ally in Verstappen. “Before I came into the team, when I first joined, he was super nice. And with any questions, he was just really helpful,” Lawson shared, emphasizing how Verstappen's willingness to assist eased his transition into the high-stakes environment of Red Bull Racing.

After just two races, Lawson was reassigned back to the sister team, Racing Bulls, but the support from Verstappen didn’t end there. The four-time world champion has continued to extend his kindness, even offering Lawson a lift back to Monaco, where the young driver recently relocated. “He’s just like, you know, ‘Just come with me if you ever need a ride,’” Lawson recounted, showcasing Verstappen's genuine nature off the track.

As Lawson gears up for the 2026 season with a renewed contract, the shadow of Verstappen’s mentorship looms large. The bond they formed, albeit short-lived, underscores a refreshing narrative in a sport often dominated by fierce competition and personal agendas.

In the wake of their time together, the questions arise: Could this friendship be a game-changer for Lawson’s career? Will Verstappen’s mentorship propel him to new heights in the racing world? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—Liam Lawson is ready to take on whatever comes next, bolstered by the kindness of a champion.

Stay tuned for more riveting insights as Lawson embarks on his journey in the high-octane world of Formula 1!
