Liam Lawson Shuts Down Wild Supercars Rumors: “I Don't Even Know How They Knew!”
In a stunning turn of events, Liam Lawson, the rising star of the Formula 1 circuit, has been forced to address rampant rumors suggesting he would make a shocking switch to Australian Supercars during the F1 summer break. The gossip erupted online, catching the attention of fans and media alike, but Lawson was quick to put the speculation to rest.
With a lengthy five-week hiatus from racing scheduled between the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29 and the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, many F1 drivers have been exploring alternative racing options to maintain their edge. Notable names like Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll have turned to GT3 racing, while Lewis Hamilton has been busy with a two-day wet-weather test for Pirelli at Fiorano. Meanwhile, other teams have engaged in various testing and filming days to keep their skills sharp.
However, amid this backdrop of activity, rumors began swirling that Lawson, who drives for the Red Bull Racing team, was gearing up to take part in the Australian Supercars series, which has races scheduled for April 10-11 and again from April 17-19. The speculation was especially rife in both Australia and New Zealand, leading fans to believe they would soon see the Kiwi driver behind the wheel of a Supercar.
But Lawson, who had just touched down in New Zealand, was left bewildered by the chatter surrounding his supposed Supercars debut. “No, I landed in New Zealand, and my phone was lighting up with: 'Oh Liam, you're racing supercars next week,'” he revealed to the media, including RacingNews365. “I was like: 'I don't even know that I'm racing supercars next week,' so I don't really know how everybody seemed to know that I was racing supercars.”
Despite the wild rumors, Lawson did express his enthusiasm for the Supercars series, a competition he has admired since childhood. “It is obviously a series that I've grown up watching, and I would love to do it at some point, for sure,” he admitted. However, he stressed that there was no substance to the rumors about him racing in Supercars at this time. “Obviously, when my life is not so focused on one thing, maybe I can actually put the time in to prepare for it, and it would be cool, but there's no real truth to [me racing in supercars].”
As the F1 world continues to buzz with activity and anticipation, Lawson's candid remarks highlight the sometimes unpredictable nature of rumors in the motorsport community. Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for the talented driver, but one thing is for sure: Liam Lawson is not ready to make any sudden moves just yet. Stay tuned for more updates as the F1 season progresses!
