Lance Stroll and Lewis Hamilton had a collision during the final stages of FP3.
The Spanish GP weekend marks the beginning of a series of three races in the coming weeks. The weekend has been full of excitement as several teams are showing promise. However, during FP3, Stroll took his car for a quick lap but was hindered by Hamilton, who was moving slowly. Stroll immediately expressed his frustration over the radio towards the seven-time world champion.
The 4.6-kilometer track has seen several winners in recent years. However, it is notorious for drivers getting in each other’s way in every edition of the Grand Prix. This became evident when two other drivers collided in the early stages of the practice session, and a similar incident occurred between Stroll and Hamilton.
Stroll expressed his anger towards Hamilton for impeding him.
The 25-year-old driver was understandably upset with the actions of the seven-time world champion. On the other hand, Hamilton acknowledged his mistake and admitted that the incident was his fault as he did not see Stroll approaching in his mirrors.
Despite Hamilton taking responsibility for his mistake, Stroll wanted to express his dissatisfaction and made a spontaneous maneuver that forced Hamilton off the track. This resulted in contact between the two drivers and led the FIA to initiate an investigation.
The FIA announced its decision on the incident involving Stroll and Hamilton after the session.
The stewards agreed that Hamilton had impeded the Aston Martin driver. However, they were not satisfied with Stroll’s subsequent actions, considering them erratic. Fortunately, Stroll received only a reprimand, although a penalty for such incidents is not ruled out.
In addition to this incident, Aston Martin is currently struggling in the midfield and barely managing to score points. If Stroll had received a penalty for his collision with Hamilton, it would have been a forgettable weekend for him. Currently, Stroll occupies the 11th position in the drivers’ standings, two positions behind his more experienced teammate.
