Aric Almirola has joined the Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinity Series team for the 2024 season. The NASCAR veteran has decided to retire from full-time racing after leaving Stewart Haas Racing. He will now be a part-time driver for the team and also serve as a mentor for Toyota’s young drivers.
There were rumors on social media that Joe Gibbs would allegedly let Almirola go or that he would retire. These rumors were fueled by the fact that Almirola has been absent from the JGR garage since the Xfinity race in Darlington, despite making five starts this year, including a win. However, JGR has now addressed these rumors.
A representative from Joe Gibbs Racing confirmed that Almirola is still a driver for the team and will participate in the upcoming Xfinity race in Indianapolis. There have been no changes to his contract or plans. He will continue to make part-time appearances in the series and hopes to achieve more wins before the end of his career.
During the same conversation, the JGR representative also revealed that Almirola will return to the series for the race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway next month. As a result, he will be absent from the garage for at least the next three weeks.
With his return after a long break, Aric Almirola is determined to make a strong comeback by winning the race. The fast cars provided by JGR this season will be a valuable asset for him, and it will be up to Almirola to use them to his advantage and secure victories.
