Special edition of the flagship model of the luxury division of the star brand, with production limited to no more than fifty units (which will begin to be delivered from autumn), and available only in selected markets: with the Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition, the Stuttgart house aims to honor the tradition of V12 engines and pay tribute to the legendary Maybach Zeppelin – the huge models produced between 1928-1938 by the company (founded by Wilhelm Maybach, assisted by his son, and brilliant engineer, Karl) that supplied the engines for the airships of the same name, in which an engine with this architecture, the first of its kind produced in series, was always an inseparable factor (7.0-V12 with 150 hp in the DS7, 8.0-V12 with 203 hp in the DS8). And, also, to create a showcase that fully illustrates the potential of its Manufaktur customization program, capable of combining art with manufacturing.
Based on the Mercedes-Maybach S 680, with a 6.0-V12 engine producing 612 hp and 900 Nm (0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, despite the weight of 2365 kg, electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h), the Mercedes-Maybach V12 Edition includes practically everything that is possible in terms of equipment. In terms of technology, solutions such as electric rear doors, active noise suppression system, rear axle steering, active suspension E-Active Body Control, or the MBUX infotainment system with five screens, some of which feature OLED technology.
But what unmistakably marks the difference are the elements originating from the Manufaktur program. On the exterior, a two-tone paint in metallic Olive green on the upper section of the body, and in metallic Obsidian black on the lower section, highlighted by a contrasting stripe in metallic High-Tech gray (the finish of which can take up to ten days, double that of a “normal” two-tone paint from Mercedes-Maybach); forged five-spoke wheels in metallic Olive green; a specific Maybach emblem for this limited edition applied on the rear pillars – accompanied, at the base, by a medal in chrome and gold, featuring a prominent “12” as a tribute to the ornament present on the hood of the Maybach Zeppelin DS8, and whose ring, in 24-carat gold, has a diamond engraving divided into 12 parts, while the central insert, also in 24-carat gold, displays an engraving with a “V” pattern, alluding to the arrangement of the engine cylinders.
Even more opulent is the cabin, upholstered in leather in an exclusive shade of brown, combined with bright walnut wood finishes (applied, including, on the hand-built steering wheel), and with the roof lining in brown with a diamond pattern. Highlighting the exclusive character of this model are, on the front central console, the specific embroidery, and the “1 of 50” emblem, and, on the rear console, the gold insert – as well as the Maybach emblem, with a commemorative medal and the number “12”, framed by twelve golden circles, a detail that requires up to seven working days of meticulous craftsmanship. Each vehicle also includes a set of personalized accessories, such as the silver champagne flutes from Robbe & Berking, with exclusive engraving for this edition; the trunk mat with a brown border; the handcrafted key gift box; and the specific keychain.
