Hyundai unveiled the new Xcient Fuel Cell Class 8 truck at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2025, held in Anaheim, California, USA, reinforcing its commitment to expanding its hydrogen business in North America.
The new Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell is the world’s first mass-produced hydrogen-powered heavy vehicle, promoting zero-emission commercial transportation.

Launched in 2020, the Hyundai Xcient Fuel Cell has been deployed in 13 countries, recording over 13 million kilometers of accumulated driving in Switzerland, where it was initially launched, highlighting Hyundai’s dedication to sustainable transportation, aided by public-private partnerships.
The Xcient is powered by a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system, consisting of two 90 kW fuel cells. Ten large hydrogen tanks provide a combined storage capacity of about 68 kg. The system also includes a 72 kWh battery, which powers a 350 kW electric motor, delivering a torque of 2,237 Nm.
The interior design of the Xcient Fuel Cell has been enhanced for greater comfort and convenience for the driver. Improvements to the interior include a fully digital 12.3’’ instrument panel that provides drivers with clear and concise information at a glance, and an infotainment system, also featuring a 12.3’’ screen with physical buttons integrated into the center console for the driver’s convenience and ergonomics.
The new model is also equipped with a comprehensive set of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designed to enhance safety and minimize driver fatigue.

“At Hyundai Motor, we are redefining the future of logistics without harmful emissions, with innovative solutions that prioritize safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Ken Ramirez, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Commercial Vehicles and Hydrogen at Hyundai. “By leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as the features of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and establishing strategic partnerships to enhance operations and infrastructure, we are empowering our fleet partners to operate in a rapidly changing landscape and lead the transition to a smarter and more sustainable future.”
Parallel to the presentation of the new hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicle, Hyundai Motor also announced the expansion of its HTWO hydrogen business brand into an open platform, bringing together partners, investors, and industries across the entire value chain.
The company announced plans to launch the “HTWO Energy Savannah,” the first hydrogen refueling and electric charging station for class 8 heavy trucks in the industry, in collaboration with HydroFleet and Capital Development Partners, assisting in the development near HMGMA in Savannah, Georgia, USA. The station is scheduled to begin operations in late 2025.
