George Russell shocks F1 world with stunning fastest time on day one of Bahrain test

George Russell Shatters Records on Day One of 2026 Bahrain F1 Test!

The adrenaline-fueled world of Formula 1 witnessed an electrifying start to the final pre-season test in Bahrain, as George Russell rocketed to the top with a blistering lap time that has set the stage for an intense competition ahead! The Mercedes star unleashed a jaw-dropping 1m33.459s, eclipsing Oscar Piastri’s previous benchmark by a mere 0.010 seconds, demonstrating he is not just ready, but poised to dominate the upcoming season.

Russell’s phenomenal performance was not a mere flash in the pan. After a slightly rocky start—where he nearly lost control at the tricky Turn 10—the driver regrouped and unleashed a spectacular nine-lap run on the C2 tyre, averaging a formidable 1m36.527s. His total of 76 laps was the highest of the day, showcasing his tenacity and skill as he prepares for the fierce battles that lie ahead.

As the dust settled, it was clear that the competition is fierce. Lining up behind Russell were Piastri, who clocked in at a commendable second place, and the ever-consistent Charles Leclerc from Ferrari, completing the top three. Piastri’s McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, and Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes rounded out the top five, establishing a tight race among the ‘big four’ teams, with just 0.840 seconds separating the top seven drivers.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the seasoned veterans. Lewis Hamilton, driving for Ferrari, faced setbacks with two lengthy pit stops that limited him to only 44 laps, leaving him in seventh place. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar from Red Bull had a resurgence after a sluggish first session, adding 53 laps to his tally, yet he couldn't improve on a disappointing qualifying simulation attempt.

The drama unfolded further with Aston Martin, which suffered the day’s only red flag incident. Lance Stroll’s spin at Turn 11 brought the session to a halt, and despite completing 26 laps, the team’s combined total was the lowest of the day. Stroll’s mishap, coupled with Fernando Alonso's struggles, left them languishing behind the pack.

The final moments of the session were reserved for crucial procedural checks, including a new start procedure trial that saw all cars participate—except for Aston Martin, which was left in the pits to contemplate its strategy moving forward.

As the sun sets on the first day of testing, the anticipation for the upcoming season is palpable. Will Russell maintain his edge, or will the fierce competition from McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull rise to the occasion? With just a few days left before the season kicks off, fans and teams alike are on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting what promises to be a thrilling 2026 Formula 1 Championship!

Top Times from Day One of Bahrain Test: 1. George Russell (Mercedes) – 1m33.459s, 76 laps 2. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – 1m33.469s, 70 laps 3. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – 1m33.739s, 70 laps 4.
