Franco Colapinto Focuses on Performance with Red Bull Speculation Following High Praise from Lewis Hamilton

Franco Colapinto, the Williams rookie making waves with consistent point-finishing performances, has quickly caught the attention of Formula 1 heavyweights. But as whispers of a potential move to Red Bull or another competitive team swirl for 2025, Colapinto is choosing to focus squarely on the task at hand: performing well for Williams this weekend in Brazil.

Brought in to replace Logan Sargeant after the summer break, Colapinto has made an immediate impact, scoring points in two of his five races and finishing no lower than 12th. While some believe he could be a strong fit for Red Bull’s driver lineup, Colapinto has been measured in his response to future speculation.

“I think I shouldn’t be the person asked about that,” Colapinto stated. “I don’t know the answer, but if Williams doesn’t have a race seat for me, the normal thing is they might allow me to look elsewhere. For now, though, I’m only focused on doing my best for Williams here in Brazil.”

Colapinto’s humility hasn’t gone unnoticed by F1’s seasoned drivers, notably seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Speaking ahead of the Sao Paulo GP, Hamilton praised the 21-year-old Argentine’s skill and attitude, pointing out the rare adaptability Colapinto demonstrated by jumping into F1 mid-season without the extensive testing most rookies experience.

“I think he’s done an incredible job being called up last minute,” Hamilton remarked. “When you’re thrown in like that, with no run-up, it’s challenging. If you look at others like Kimi [Raikkonen] early on, they had the luxury of ample testing. Colapinto didn’t have that; he just jumped in and showed he could keep up.”

Hamilton had firsthand experience of Colapinto’s talent during an on-track battle, which he described as “super-safe, hard but fair.” The champion driver was so impressed with Colapinto’s composed and fearless approach that he urged the rookie’s management to fight for his place in the grid next season.

“From what I’ve seen, he’s earned his right to be here,” Hamilton said. “There’s a seat available, and he’s being humble, saying it’s not for him to decide. But my advice is to push hard. He just needs to keep performing as he is; the rest will follow.”

Despite Hamilton’s glowing endorsement, Colapinto remains firmly grounded. Recognizing the significance of his opportunity at Williams, he conveyed his gratitude, noting, “I wasn’t expecting to race in F1 this year, but Williams gave me this shot, and I’m just trying to make the most of it.”

With Williams in a competitive field and Colapinto’s career on the rise, his journey through Formula 1 is becoming one of the season’s most talked-about narratives. For now, though, he’s simply focused on maintaining his momentum at Interlagos and proving he belongs in the pinnacle of motorsport.
