Ford is recalling 694,271 vehicles in the United States due to a fuel leak that may increase the risk of fire.
The information revealed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this Wednesday follows a year-long investigation and affects Ford Bronco Sport models produced between 2021 and 2024 and the Escape SUV manufactured between 2020 and 2022.
The NHTSA report, revealed by “Reuters,” indicates that the potentially affected vehicles have a fuel injector that may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment, which could increase the risk of fire.
Ford initially analyzed the problem in March 2024 and suggested at the time a software update for the engine control and the installation of a drain as a solution. The affected vehicles were equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, the American automaker reported.
However, at that time the brand did not recommend the replacement of the potentially defective fuel injectors. At the time, the recall only covered about 42,000 vehicles.
