Charles Leclerc left dismayed by the “huge” performance gap to McLaren in the recent Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix sprint qualifying. Despite Ferrari’s new rear suspension package, Leclerc struggled to keep up with the pace set by McLaren, particularly championship leader Oscar Piastri.

Piastri dominated the qualifying session, leaving Max Verstappen trailing by almost half a second. Ferrari seemed to have less downforce compared to McLaren, evident from the gap widening along the Kemmel Straight. Leclerc expressed disappointment at the significant deficit to McLaren, even though he felt some improvements in the car’s rear end with the new suspension.

Leclerc managed to secure the fourth spot on the grid for the Spa-Francorchamps sprint race, but his frustration was evident as he highlighted the lack of outright grip in the car. Despite the positive feeling from the car’s handling, Leclerc acknowledged the substantial gap to the front runners and emphasized the need for more grip to improve performance.

Meanwhile, his teammate Lewis Hamilton faced a challenging sprint qualifying, plagued by misfortune including a rear locking issue that caused him to skid off the track. Hamilton’s struggles mirrored Ferrari’s difficulties, with both drivers unable to match the pace set by their competitors.

As the drivers gear up for the upcoming races, the pressure is on Ferrari to bridge the gap and enhance the car’s grip to stay competitive in the fierce Formula 1 championship battle.

Stay tuned for more updates on the thrilling Formula 1 season as teams strive for supremacy on the track.
