Charles Leclerc Poised to Adopt Max Verstappen’s Controversial ‘Rule-Playing’ Strategy for 2025 Title Battle – ‘I’ve Got That in Me’

Charles Leclerc has set his sights on the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship and is willing to adopt a more aggressive approach to take on rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Coming off a strong 2024 season where he clinched third place with three Grand Prix wins and 13 podiums, Leclerc is determined to rise to the top—even if it means pushing the boundaries of on-track tactics.

Learning from Verstappen: Playing by the Rules, Barely

Leclerc openly acknowledged Verstappen’s mastery of aggressive, rule-pushing tactics during the 2024 season. Verstappen’s calculated aggression was pivotal in holding off Norris and securing his championship, even in a car that wasn’t the fastest on the grid. Leclerc now plans to use similar strategies in the upcoming season.

“There were moments where [Max] was not aggressive, but when the end of the season arrived, and Lando was coming back there, you could see him play with the rules a lot more,” Leclerc said. “I feel like I’ve got that in me. When big things will be at stake… I’ll go for it.”

A New Rivalry Brewing

Leclerc is expected to be a top contender for the 2025 championship alongside Verstappen and Norris. The 2024 season saw fierce clashes between Verstappen and Norris, with the Dutchman using every tool at his disposal to maintain his edge. While Leclerc wasn’t directly involved in their title fight last year, he’s ready to step into the fray.

“We’ve known each other for a long time, and so it is always more exciting when we’re fighting together,” Leclerc reflected on Verstappen. “Unfortunately [not in 2024], because at the beginning of the season, he had quite a dominant car, and we were not in the fight with him. By the time we were competitive, there was Lando in between.”

Ferrari’s Resurgence

Leclerc’s performance in 2024 was a testament to his skill, but Ferrari’s inconsistent SF-24 left him unable to mount a full-scale title challenge. However, Ferrari’s prospects for 2025 appear brighter. Leclerc will also have a new teammate in seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, a pairing that promises intense intra-team dynamics.

While having Hamilton as a partner brings invaluable experience, it could also put Leclerc under pressure to assert himself within the team. With Ferrari aiming for both Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships, the Monegasque might face some of the toughest challenges of his career.

What Lies Ahead for Leclerc?

Leclerc’s determination, combined with Ferrari’s improved performance, positions him as a serious threat in 2025. With Verstappen, Norris, and Hamilton in the mix, the season promises to be one of the most competitive in recent memory. Whether Leclerc’s willingness to play on the edge of the rules will be enough to secure his first championship remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: he’s ready to leave nothing on the table.
