BYD sold more electric vehicles in Europe in April than the American company Tesla, which happened for the first time.
According to data from “JATO Dynamics“, revealed this Thursday by “Reuters”, BYD sold 7,231 fully electric vehicles in the fourth month of the year, while Elon Musk’s brand reached sales of 7,165 units.
The same source indicates that Tesla may have been penalized by a drop in demand, an aging range of models, and CEO Elon Musk’s policies.
“This is a pivotal moment for the European automotive market, especially considering that Tesla has led the European battery electric vehicle (BEV) market for years, while BYD only officially began its operations beyond Norway and the Netherlands at the end of 2022”, said Felipe Munoz, global analyst at “JATO Dynamics”.
The demand for electric vehicles in Europe remains stable. Registrations of fully electric vehicles increased by 28% in April compared to the same month in 2024, driven mainly by Chinese car brands.
