BYD inicia montagem de veículos elétricos no Brasil

BYD, the Chinese leading global manufacturer of new energy vehicles, announced this Wednesday the new factory in Brazil, with the assembly of the first Dolphin Surf, recently launched in the European market.

Although it has started assembling vehicles, BYD does not consider the new factory, located in Bahia, to be inaugurated. The expectation was for the inauguration. However, it is a state-of-the-art production unit where every square meter is equipped with cutting-edge technology.

BYD invested €853 million in its new factory, a gigantic facility with 4.6 million square meters, equivalent to the size of 645 football fields. After the completion of all construction phases, the project is expected to generate up to 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.

For this year, BYD projects a production of 50,000 units. In 2026, the goal is to reach a production of 150,000 units. However, in the next five years, when the entire complex is completed, the expected production is 300,000 vehicles per year.

“BYD is built by engineers and driven by innovation. We are one of the largest investors in Research and Development (R&D) in the world, and now all this talent is driving the new factory in Brazil. It has only been 15 months since the groundbreaking to the first car rolling off the assembly line. This is not just a milestone for BYD; it is a turning point for sustainable mobility.”, said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD.

It should be noted that the construction of the new BYD factory was embroiled in controversy due to an investigation into worker abuses.
