Briatore rumores de fazer retorno surpreendente à Fórmula 1 com a Alpine.

Flavio Briatore, a former leader of the Formula 1 Renault team, has been linked to a surprising comeback with the Alpine team, based in Enstone. Reports from the French and Italian media suggest that Briatore may take on a special advisory role within the team. Briatore has previously served as Team Principal during the Benetton and Renault eras, overseeing the successes of Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. However, his tenure with the team ended in controversy following the ‘crashgate’ scandal at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix. Despite initially being banned for life, this ban was later overturned in 2013. Now, it appears that Renault CEO Luca de Meo has reached out to the 74-year-old Italian to discuss his potential involvement with the team once again.

If Briatore were to join Alpine, his role would involve providing guidance and assistance in terms of recruitment strategies. The team has been struggling with performance in the past year and a half and is eager to regain its status as a competitive Formula 1 team. As part of this effort, de Meo has already made significant changes within the organization. Former Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi, Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer, and Sporting Director Alan Permane have all been replaced. Bruno Famin currently holds the position of Team Principal for the 2024 season. However, following a disastrous concept change that left the team at a significant disadvantage, more heads rolled in March with the departure of Technical Director Matt Harman and Aerodynamics Chief Dirk de Beer. In an attempt to restructure the technical side of the team, a new triple Technical Structure has been implemented, with Famin bringing in David Sanchez to lead the Alpine technical team in the future.

The team’s luck has been gradually changing in recent weeks, with Esteban Ocon scoring a point in Miami and Pierre Gasly achieving the same result in Monaco. Alpine seems to be finding its rhythm in the midfield battle.

Amid rumors that Briatore could join Alpine to further boost their progress, this decision would certainly be met with controversy, given his history. The team released a statement addressing this possibility.

“As a team, we regularly consult various industry experts to enhance our overall performance,” the statement began. “We carefully consider all relevant information and, when appropriate, seek advice from individuals with experience and proven success. We cannot comment on specific matters.”

Recruiting Briatore would be another impulsive move by de Meo, further highlighting his poor management of the Alpine Formula 1 team.

Given his controversial past and reported ambition to regain a Team Principal role, his involvement could create a volatile environment.

The instability at Alpine goes beyond recruitment. According to reports from Joe Saward, de Meo is exploring the possibility of securing an external engine supplier for 2026 and beyond.

This suggests that Alpine may end its Formula 1 power unit operations in Viry-Chatillon and even consider putting the team up for sale.

Alpine may attract potential buyers, such as Andretti or the Chinese automotive giant Geely, who are considering entering the Formula 1 circus.
