Renault has announced that its next C-segment SUV will be revealed in the coming months and will be named Boreal. The new offering from the French brand will be available in over 70 markets outside of Europe and will launch first in Latin America.
Renault’s Naming Strategy Director, Sylvia dos Santos, stated that the name Boreal is derived from Boreas, the god of the wind in Greek mythology, making it a fitting name for an SUV, as it implies strength and a “design that enhances status”. Additionally, it evokes thoughts of the aurora borealis, commonly known as the Northern Lights.
Beyond the marketing surrounding the name of the new Renault SUV, the French brand has not revealed details about the new model; however, rumors suggest that the new Boreal may be a rebranded version of the Dacia Bigster, which wouldn’t be surprising since the Kardian was a revised version of the Dacia Sandero.
