Baidu planeia lançar serviço de robotáxi na Europa

Baidu Apollo is expanding its services in Guangzhou, showcasing the commercialization prospects of autonomous vehicles

Baidu, the Chinese multinational technology company, is planning to launch its robotaxi service, Apollo Go, in Europe.

The Beijing-based tech giant is in negotiations with PostAuto, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, to launch the Apollo Go robotaxi service in Switzerland, according to a report by the “Wall Street Journal” on Wednesday.

Baidu, which already operates this robotaxi service in Hong Kong, aims to expand Apollo Go into international markets and plans to open facilities in Switzerland in the coming months and start testing the technology by the end of this year, according to the report.

It is worth noting that Baidu invested in autonomous driving technology in 2013 and was one of the first Chinese companies to enter the sector. So far, Apollo Go provides robotaxi services in over 10 cities in mainland China.

In November of last year, the Hong Kong government issued pilot licenses for Baidu to test the Apollo Go service in designated areas. Earlier this month in May, Baidu was authorized to expand its testing in Hong Kong.
