Audi: debate sobre proibição de motores de combustão na Europa é “contraproducente”

The CEO of Audi, Gernot Döllner, is against the renewed debate on the ban across the European Union (EU) of new vehicles powered by combustion engines starting in 2035.

In an interview with the German economic magazine “WirtschaftsWoche”, Döllner described the discussion as “counterproductive” and stated that the electric car is, without reservation, the future of the industry.

“I know of no better technology than electric mobility to advance the reduction of CO2 emissions in transportation in the coming years. But even beyond climate protection, the electric car is the best technology”, said Döllner.

The CEO of Audi also believes that the constant debates about preserving the combustion engine are unproductive and are causing uncertainty among consumers.

With this position, Döllner distances himself from the CEO of Mercedes and president of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Ola Källenius, who at the opening of the Munich Motor Show again defended the repeal of the “ban on combustion engines” and continues to advocate for hybrids and modern combustion engines as necessary; otherwise, the European car market could “collapse” if the measure goes forward.
