Le Mans Veteran Andre Lotterer Pushes Limits in LMP2 Debut

Renowned Le Mans 24 Hours champion, Andre Lotterer, is facing new challenges as he transitions to driving LMP2 machinery for the first time. Lotterer, a three-time Le Mans winner, is currently competing in the #18 ORECA-Gibson 07 car under the Genesis Magma Racing banner. Despite his vast experience, Lotterer found himself struggling to adapt to the nuances of the LMP2 car during qualifying at Le Mans.

Teamed up with Le Mans rookies Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert, Lotterer faced unexpected hurdles after former Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant abruptly left the team before the start of the European Le Mans Series season. With limited testing time, Lotterer admitted to pushing the car beyond its limits in an attempt to familiarize himself with its capabilities.

In an interview, Lotterer confessed, “I overdrove the car completely in qualifying, expecting more grip from the tires.” Despite his initial difficulties, Lotterer acknowledged the enjoyable aspects of driving the LMP2 car, noting its agility and speed in corners compared to a Hypercar. He emphasized the need to further understand the Goodyear tires used in the LMP2 class to optimize performance.

While disappointed with his 14th place in qualifying, Lotterer remains optimistic about his prospects in the race, highlighting that grid position does not dictate the final outcome. As he continues to fine-tune his driving style and adapt to the characteristics of the LMP2 car, Lotterer is determined to make the necessary adjustments for a successful performance on the track.

With a wealth of experience and a competitive drive, Andre Lotterer’s journey into the world of LMP2 racing adds a new dimension to his illustrious racing career, promising excitement and challenges ahead.
